Verdant Roots began in 2014 as a one-woman balcony garden consultation in Indiranagar. Today we are a team of twenty-two horticulturists, designers, and arborists designing, planting, and maintaining gardens across Bengaluru and beyond.
How a balcony became a movement
It started with a question. Why do Indian homes have so many dead plants? The answer, our founder Niharika Rao realised, wasn't laziness — it was the wrong plants, the wrong advice, and no one to call when something went wrong.
So she left her corporate job, took a course in landscape design, and started Verdant Roots out of a 200-square-foot Indiranagar balcony. Her first three clients are still her clients today — they have since moved twice and each time called her first, before the packers.
Eleven years later we operate from a 3-acre nursery on the outskirts of Bengaluru, employ a team of certified horticulturists and arborists, and ship plants and planters across India. But the founding question still drives every decision: how do we keep the plants alive, and the people who love them happy?

Right plant, right place
We never sell a plant that won't survive your specific conditions. Sun, soil, water, microclimate — these come first.
Real horticulturists
Every visit is led by a certified horticulturist, not a sub-contracted gardener. You know who is coming.
No shortcuts on soil
We blend our own potting mix with vermicompost from our nursery, neem cake, and coco peat. No chemical shortcuts.
Designs that age well
We design gardens that look better in year five than year one. Restraint beats trend in any climate.

Niharika Rao
Niharika has designed over 280 residential gardens across India. Alumni of the Royal Horticultural Society.
Aditya Khanna
A certified arborist with 18 years of field experience, Aditya leads our AMC team and plant-doctor clinic.
Priya Reddy
Priya joined Verdant Roots in 2017 after a decade at a Singapore firm. She leads our commercial projects.
Vikram Shah
Vikram runs our 3-acre nursery and personally curates the 1,800+ species we keep in stock.

The nursery is open to clients by appointment. Walk through the greenhouses, choose the plants for your project in person, and meet the team that will install them.
